It’s definitely just concentrated FOMO, but it does suck being stuck on the outside, not even being able to look in, knocking on the door while people keep sending “wish you were here” postcards through the mail slot.

All of the invites seem to have dried up and I don’t feel like I deserve to be ahead of anyone in line but it doesn’t make the wait any more tolerable.

I have been trying everything (except Bluesky as I'm still waiting on an invite). I like Post best of all. It's a work-in-progress, but the leadership is remarkably engaged and transparent about what they're working on. My biggest complaint is that it's missing humor/silliness. But of all the sites, I've tried, I think it has the most potential.

After abandoning Twitter except to hawk new episodes of a podcast I'm in, I've been using Mastodon on an instance I host, because I wanted to see how it worked. It feels like running your own blog: I just post randomly to it, hoping someone else will see it and react to it, but that not really happening much. Still, it gets out the thoughts (like this place) and I can browse through some like-minded techies and artists while I'm there.

I wish more of my friends were there, but I tend to just directly text or Slack them nowadays, rather than passively browse them on something like Facebook or Twitter.
