Hey Alex, I wish I had more in the way of suggestions, but I just wanted to drop you a line to say how refreshing this level of transparency is. I always love reading your updates. Thank you for what you do, and keep up the great work!
My other suggestion would be a cheaper tier of hyper fixed premium that only gives certain benefits like access to the discord, but not necessarily the bonus episodes
Ratings and reviews are super important to discoverability. If you're not asking listeners to rate & review at least once per episode, you're missing an opportunity.
I sort of feel like with the Claire episode, you got her on the show, but you didn’t necessarily get the cross promotion from her and that you might’ve wanted (i.e. a video of her making said cake and mentioning Hyperfixed in it). So yeah, I don’t know if that’s helpful but I feel like if you want to do more stuff like that it’s gotta be a little more reciprocal maybe
Back when we all still went to offices, the web developer I shared an office with always told me to listen to it. And then I finally did...like seven years too late. I was left at the end of it feeling so sad that this incredible show didn't last. I'm in like the post show blues now? IDK, its weird.
Anyway, then I went on a mission to find more shows like it, and wound up here (obviously). Excited to see that you are writing, podcasting and working again. And, I guess I just wanted to tell you that journalism and storytelling, they aren't just a job, they're a thing that springs from inside of people.
And it really sucks that storytellers have to cobble together a life around the economics of clicks and views and shitty ads... because the whole reason to do the job is because of this unchangeable fact about ourselves, that our lives and the lives of those around us are better when we are doing longform journalism like this.
As you've mentioned a bunch here on Substack, and as I too have seen first hand working in media, the landscape is shrinking. Getting paid or getting a worthwhile platform to express that creative part of ourselves is fucking hard. And the whole thing feels a little bit like being a polar bear on an iceberg. Every bear for himself.
Anway, this is too long and rambling, so yeah -- I think you're an exceptional voice, and I'm really glad to see you're back in the saddle. I signed up as a premium podcast supporter on the spot seeing that Hyperfixed exists.
Looking forward to getting caught up on those long drives to daycare drop off, my friend.

Loved this. And I love the transparency that isn’t required at all, but appreciated! I’ve been listening since TLDR, and will continue to listen!
